Words cannot describe our feelings. We had already lost a 19 year old son in a motor accident. We approached other doctors and hospitals that specialised in Cancer treatment but the best that could be offered was from the Wakefield hospital in Wellington who could give some treatment that may prolong life by a few months at a cost of around $40,000. Quality of life would not be good. There was just nowhere to go – total despair. What did we have going for us? 1...Linda’s very positive attitude proved to be an inspiration for so many people – doctors, nurses, family and all who met her. She never gave up hope, she comforted others, and she had a great sense of humour right up to the day she died. 2....Raymond, Linda’s husband of 24 years never failed in his loving support. He gave up work to be with her and the children facing the daunting prospect of becoming a solo dad to seven children. 3...Our family and friends. It is at times like this you find out just how indispensible the comfort and support they provide is. Hands on "},{"text":"practical help, financial assistance and just listening helped sustain us through the darkness. 4....Our faith. We were, and still are, totally confident that we can have the opportunity to meet Linda again on earth under the conditions described in the Bible at Revelation 21. However, this is a completely different subject and not discussed here. When it became obvious there was no conventional treatment that offered any hope, Raymond and I started seriously researching the prospect of “alternative” treatments. I was semi retired so was in a position to do this full time. Fifty years in the media industry with many research projects under my belt did not prepare me for the complexity and controversy surrounding cancer research and treatment. QUESTIONABLE TREATMENTS One of the first things that happen following a diagnosis of cancer is that a never-ending number of friends and acquaintances tell you of people who have been cured by a mind blowing variety of methods. We researched these and countless other cure claims on the internet. Most, in our opinion, were total rubbish. However, some sounded very logical so we concentrated on these. The project took on an even more urgent turn when my wife Margaret, was also diagnosed with cancer and given a time frame in which we did not expect her to see 2010. This news was devastating to Linda who had had some comfort in the knowledge that her mother would be there to help with bringing up her youngest children after her death. Our research led us to commence “alternative” treatments and diet changes with Linda. The state of her liver was such that in our hearts we knew it was a very long shot. We were grateful that she lived longer than expected and had a much better quality of life than many comparable sufferers. She retained her looks until the day she died. During Linda’s illness our next "},{"text":"door neighbours Jenny & Bill Moore told me of some friends they had in Wanaka. The wife had cancer ten years ago and looked terrible. She was told by Dunedin Public Hospital that there was no hope at all and to get her affairs in order. Today she is vibrant and living a great life. I asked how was this achieved and was told she had to sit in front of a box with a light on top of it and it cured her. Like most of you reading this now, I dismissed this as rubbish and felt that it would all be in her imagination and that probably it was just one of those unexplained instances where the cancer disappears by itself. With so many other “alternative” cancer treatments to research that looked far more scientific, I deemed it unworthy of further investigation. AN ALTERNATIVE BREAKTHROUGH After Linda’s death we were in Wanaka so decided we would look in on this couple, Ngaire and Harvey Wellman. Frankly I was very impressed. I left and decided to do some research on what they called Rife treatment. On the surface it all looked too good to be true – there must be a catch. There is a Rife Clinic in Christchurch run by Shirley Montgomery so, while still being very sceptical, we paid her a visit. She was not pushy and gave a full and frank outline of how Rife was supposed to work. This was very helpful, but I wanted far more proof of the claims made. I managed to track down a number of people who had undergone Rife treatment with Shirley and other operators. I visited them and was convinced that somehow or other this really did work. I decided to interview them on video – my media experience told me this could be a good story! At the time of writing this we have recorded about a dozen people who credit Rife treatment with their still being alive today. I still have more to interview and will then make a DVD available to anyone who wants "},{"text":"it. In the meantime I have the unedited footage here which I am happy to show to those interested. I could have interviewed many more who have had remarkable results. They were happy to be interviewed and talk about it but did not want their names made available. That is fair enough and I respect their position. While I believe what they said, I understand the scepticism surrounding testimonials about any healing claims so have not featured anyone not prepared to give their names and be prepared to talk to those undergoing the same trials they once did. Margaret started Rife treatment in Christchurch. This was required three times a week and improvements in her health were certainly noticed. TOO EXPENSIVE However it was proving to be expensive. The actual treatment costs were $150 a week which was very reasonable for nearly five hours of time. The problem was in travel costs and that most times we had to stay over as the round trip was too exhausting for Marg. Our only source of income is superannuation and treatment expenses were higher than what was coming in! It was then that the real hero of this project came on the scene.
