Individuals and Families You can make a one-off gift or you can pledge a gift to be paid monthly or at intervals convenient to you. Companies A company can make a cash donation or help through a gift in-kind of services or materials. Designated gifts You might like to use your gift to pay for a particular part of the new building. You might also like to make this gift in memory of a loved one. We are happy to discuss these opportunities with you. Recognition This project only becomes a reality through the dedication of time, money and passion from people like you. Coastguard Queenstown would like to recognise your contribution. A gift board will also be installed at the building to reflect the various contributions at platinum, gold, silver and bronze levels. There may be other appropriate ways in which we can recognise your contribution— we are happy to discuss this with you. Naming rights to the building are available and can be negotiated, for example ‘(name of your choice) Marine Rescue Centre’. Taxation Opportunities—Legislation changes make it easier to give more. Individuals can now claim 33 1/3% tax rebate for donations, up to a maximum claim equal to their annual taxable income. Companies are now entitled to a deduction for donations made to donee organisations, limited only by the amount of the company’s net income. The reality is that you can now give 50% more than you might otherwise have done. For example Before the law change, Peter and Sue decided they could afford to make a donation of $10,000 to Coastguard Queenstown. The potential rebate of $630 was not a factor in their decision. Now that the law has changed, Peter and Sue can claim a rebate of 331/3 % or $3,333.33 on a donation of $10,000. So, in fact they could now make a donation of $15,000 to Coastguard, recognising that they can claim a rebate of $5,000. Or suffice to say that a donation of $15,000 now only costs $10,000. Although the new laws are quite clear, tax matters can be complex and may differ dependant on individual circumstances. We advise you to speak to your own tax advisors before making a decision on tax.
