9 Destination Clutha Catlins Adventure Tours Beaumont Jet The tour begins with a short introduction of some local history after which we will travel upstream beneath the historic Beaumont Bridge through breath taking scenery and white water shoots, rocky outcrops, shallows, and experience the famous Hamilton Jet Spins along the way to the bush clad Native Island. Take a rest and relax while your driver gives you some insight into the importance of this part of the river to the early Maori and view close up, Black Backed Gulls in nesting season (November- March). There are also abundant ducks and Black Shags and you may even catch a glimpse of a Brown or Rainbow Trout. Leave Native Island and prepare yourself for a spin or two on the journey back to Beaumont Jet landing and a smile for the camera. Boat seats 8 to 10 Passengers, trip duration 30 to 40 minutes. Bike Hire Bikes are located in Lawrence, the start of the new Clutha Gold Trail - 75km of trail that runs from Lawrence to Roxburgh Dam. The trail is part of the NZ Cycle Network. Ability level is beginner with some small up and down hills. Bike hire is per day. Transport of bags per section and transport from Dunedin airport or Dunedin can all be arranged. Offtrack Tours The perfect ride for fit beginner-intermediate cyclists, this day trip starts at the stunning Kaka Point and meanders through back roads towards Owaka. The route then follows gravel roads to Cannibal Bay, where we ride on the beach which has a consistent Hooker Sea lion population. They are always willing to pose for the camera. After a delicious lunch on the beach, we head back towards our start point and finish the ride at Nugget Point, where you can see a stunning array of wildlife, including the Yellow Eyed penguin. Return trip to Dunedin Distance - 45km, Fitness Level - Moderate, and Technical - Beginner.
