Mohua Park is an 8 hectare native forest reserve with many birds, walks and rest areas. Catlins WIldlife Trackers run three day Ecotours and the Catlins Traverse walk. “Standout Experience in The Catlins” “I can’t imagine a better way to experience the Catlins than an eco tour at Mohua Park set in 8 hectares covered in native forest. On our first day we arrived in mid-afternoon. There are many tracks within the grounds and we walked several: ancient trees, moss garden, owl trail, glow worm grotto, ponds, lookout seats and picnic tables. The Catlins is a remote area and we’ve booked full food included along with a day guiding in the area. Our cottage is self contained so we could cook if we wanted to, but I’m glad to have Mary and Fergus take care of us. Our picture windows are facing rolling hills with some forest and the lower area for sheep grazing. I love when I come out all the sheep turn and stand still as statues just looking in my direction. All in all, if you want to experience the Catlins and not simply “see” it, then this eco tour is fantastic. We stayed two nights, but with hindsight another day or two would have given us an opportunity for a day of exploration in the area and another day to explore and enjoy Mohua Park itself.” Guest feedback on Trip Advisor March 2014 Mohua Park, 744 Catlins Valley Road, 10 minutes south of Owaka On the Southern Scenic Route.
